Cruise ship WiFi costs $15–$35 per device per day depending on the plan and cruise line. It's always cheaper to buy before sailing, and newer ships have meaningfully better connectivity.

Cruise ship WiFi has improved dramatically in the last few years — but it still costs real money, and the price varies widely by cruise line and plan.
WiFi pricing by cruise line (per device, per day)
| Cruise line | Basic plan | Premium plan | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Royal Caribbean | $17/day | $22/day | "Surf" vs "Surf + Stream" |
| Carnival | $12/day | $28/day | Social vs Premium |
| Norwegian | Included (limited) | $25/day | Free at Sea minutes-based |
| MSC | $14/day | $24/day | Browse vs Stream |
| Celebrity | $18/day | $25/day | |
| Disney | $25/day | — | One tier, decent quality |
| Princess | $15/day | $24/day | MedallionNet |
Prices are per device. Buying for 2 people on 2 devices for 7 nights at mid-tier: $210–$350 total. Always buy pre-cruise for 10–20% discount.

What "basic" vs "premium" means in practice
Basic/Social plans: Good for checking email, browsing news, social media (Instagram, Facebook). Struggles with video calls or streaming. Fine for staying loosely connected.
Premium/Stream plans: Can handle video calls (Zoom, FaceTime), Netflix, and music streaming. Still not as fast as home WiFi — think a reliable 4G connection on a good day.

Which ships have the best connectivity?
Newer ships (launched 2020+) use Starlink or similar satellite systems and are meaningfully faster. Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas, Carnival's newer Excel-class ships, and Princess's Sun Princess all offer substantially better connectivity than older vessels.
Older ships in the Caribbean often have inconsistent connections — fast in port, sluggish at sea.
How to save on WiFi
- Buy before sailing — always 10–20% cheaper than onboard pricing
- One device, share the login — most plans are per-device but if you and your travel partner are never on at the same time, you can share one login (technically against terms but widely done)
- Norwegian Free at Sea — includes WiFi minutes, enough for basic use at no extra charge
- Princess Plus/Premier package — includes MedallionNet WiFi plus drinks and gratuities in one bundled price
- Use port WiFi — every port stop has free or cheap WiFi at cafes, malls, and tourist areas. Download content before re-boarding
Is cruise WiFi worth buying?
For most people: yes, one device, premium plan, pre-cruise price. Being completely disconnected for a week is harder than it sounds, especially if you have kids at home or work responsibilities. Budget around $17–$25/day per device and pre-purchase it.
