Can't decide for our honeymoon…

A Norwegian Cruise Line honeymoon typically costs $3,500–$8,000+ per couple all-in, depending on cabin category, add-ons, and destination — with gratuities alone running $280+ per couple for a 7-night sailing, plus drink packages, specialty dining, and excursions stacking up fast.

You're planning the trip of a lifetime and Norwegian keeps dangling those 'free' perks in front of you — but free at NCL was never actually free. Here's what a Norwegian honeymoon actually costs in 2025–2026, so you can budget like adults and still have a magical trip.

What a Norwegian Honeymoon Actually Costs, All-In

The cruise fare is just the entry ticket. By the time you add gratuities, drinks, dining, WiFi, excursions, and the spa afternoon you'll absolutely want on your honeymoon, you're looking at a very different number than what NCL's homepage shows you.

Expense Budget Couple Mid-Range Couple Splurge Couple
Cruise Fare (7 nights, per couple) $1,400 (inside cabin) $2,800 (balcony) $6,000+ (Haven suite)
Gratuities ($20/person/day standard, $25 Haven) $280 $280 $350
Drink Package (More at Sea service charge ~$15–20/person/day or standalone $99–118/day) $210 (service charge only) $420 (both guests, mid-tier) $840+ (standalone premium)
Specialty Dining (2–3 nights) $0 (MDR only) $200–$300 (3-meal SDP × 2) $400+ (à la carte top venues)
WiFi (Unlimited, $29.99/day × 1 device) $0 (use 150 free minutes) $210 (1 device, 7 nights) $420 (2 devices, premium streaming)
Shore Excursions (2–3 ports) $100–$200 (DIY) $400–$600 (ship excursions) $800–$1,200 (private tours)
Spa / Couples Treatments $0 $200–$350 $500–$800
Onboard Shopping / Extras $50 $200 $500+
Estimated Total (per couple) ~$2,000–$2,500 ~$4,500–$5,500 ~$9,000–$12,000+

Note: Haven suite fares vary wildly by ship and itinerary — $6,000 is a conservative floor, not a ceiling.

The Costs That Will Blindside You on a Norwegian Honeymoon

Gratuities are non-negotiable. Norwegian charges $20/person/day for standard cabins, $25/person/day in Haven suites. On a 7-night sailing, that's $280 per couple minimum — charged to your onboard account whether you like it or not. You can request a refund post-cruise via written letter with a valid reason, but don't count on it.

The More at Sea 'free' beverage package isn't free. As of January 2025, Norwegian's bundled promo is called More at Sea. The drink package is included, but you pay a daily service charge of roughly $15–$20/person/day to keep it active. That's up to $280 extra per couple on a 7-night sailing, on top of the already-mandatory 20% gratuity on every drink poured. If you'd rather buy standalone, the Premium Beverage Package runs $99–$118/person/day — the highest standalone rate of any major mainstream cruise line.

Critical 2026 update: As of March 1, 2026, drink packages do NOT work at Great Stirrup Cay (Norwegian's private island). Water, iced tea, and juice are still free there — but every beer, cocktail, and frozen drink costs extra. Budget accordingly if your itinerary stops there.

Specialty dining adds up fast for a honeymoon. You're going to want a real dinner on your honeymoon — not the main dining room every night. NCL's specialty restaurants charge a flat cover of $30–$50/person per visit. The smarter play: buy the 3-meal Specialty Dining Package for $69/person (book online to save $10/person vs. buying onboard). That's $138 per couple for three proper dinners at Cagney's Steakhouse, Le Bistro, or Teppanyaki.

The 20% service charge applies to everything. Drinks, specialty dining, spa treatments, room service — everything gets a 20% automatic gratuity stacked on top of the sticker price. A $13 cocktail is really $15.60. A $50/person specialty dinner cover is really $60/person.

Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Norwegian Honeymoon Budget

1. Book specialty dining online before you board. Save $10/person on the Specialty Dining Package — that's $20 back in your pocket for literally clicking a button on the Norwegian website. Cancel 2+ hours before your reservation or you'll get hit with a $10/person no-show fee.

2. Declare your honeymoon when booking. Norwegian — and most travel agents — will flag your cabin for complimentary perks like a small cake, a card, or sometimes a bottle of bubbly. It costs nothing to ask. Book through a travel agent who specializes in honeymoons and this is often automatic.

3. Don't buy WiFi for two devices unless you genuinely need it. More at Sea includes 150 minutes of Starlink WiFi per guest in your stateroom. That's 300 minutes total for a couple. If you're both going to be doomscrolling Instagram through your honeymoon, rethink your priorities — and your WiFi spend. Unlimited is $29.99/day per device; streaming premium is $39.99/day.

4. Haven suite = worth serious consideration for a honeymoon. The Haven is Norwegian's ship-within-a-ship experience — private pool, dedicated restaurant, butler service, priority everything. The gratuity is only $5/day more ($25 vs $20). If you're going to splurge once in your marriage, this is the occasion. Watch for Haven promotions in the 90–120 day pre-cruise window.

5. Skip the ship excursions in beach ports. In Caribbean or Bahamas ports, local taxi drivers outside the terminal will run you to the same beach for $10–$20/person round-trip. Save your excursion budget for unique cultural experiences where the ship's organization actually adds value.

6. Pre-pay everything you can before boarding. Gratuities, drink package service charges, dining, WiFi — buying onboard means paying full price. Buying pre-cruise in the Cruise Planner typically saves 10–20% and takes the sticker shock out of your final bill.

Best Norwegian Ships for a Honeymoon

Ship Best For Why
Norwegian Prima / Viva Couples who want design and calm Intentionally lower passenger count, stunning atrium, premium feel without Haven pricing
Norwegian Joy Caribbean itineraries Strong specialty dining lineup, good Haven value, popular Caribbean routes
Norwegian Encore / Bliss Entertainment-focused honeymooners Broadway shows, racetracks, massive Haven complex
Norwegian Getaway Budget-conscious couples Older ship = lower fares, still solid dining and entertainment

For Caribbean honeymoons, Norwegian Prima on its Bermuda or Caribbean runs is the strongest recommendation in 2025–2026. Lower passenger density means shorter lines, quieter spaces, and a generally more premium feel that suits a honeymoon without requiring a Haven upgrade.

For Mediterranean honeymoons, Norwegian ships port in iconic destinations but the ship itself matters less — focus on itinerary and prioritize specialty dining nights in port cities when the ship is docked late.
