Not all "solo-friendly" lines are equal. Some build cabins for one person; others just charge you for the empty bed. Here's the honest ranking.
1. Norwegian Cruise Line — best overall
Norwegian has dozens of Studio cabins on Breakaway-plus and Prima-class ships (Escape, Bliss, Encore, Prima, Viva, Aqua). You pay the per-person double-occupancy rate — no supplement — and get access to the Studio Lounge, a private hangout where solo sailors meet for daily events.
2. Virgin Voyages — best adults-only vibe
Virgin doesn't use traditional studio cabins. Instead, many sailings have a built-in solo rate with no supplement. The ships are adults-only, the food is strong, and the social atmosphere works whether you want to party or read by the pool.
3. Royal Caribbean — best big-ship studios
Only Quantum-class ships (Odyssey, Ovation, Anthem, Quantum, Spectrum) have studio interiors/balconies. Otherwise you pay a standard supplement. The upside: massive ships mean you can be anonymous or social at will.
4. Celebrity Cruises — best premium solo
Celebrity Edge-class ships (Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent, Xcel) have single Infinite Veranda cabins — a real balcony for one. Expect premium pricing, but the product matches it.
5. MSC — best Europe value
MSC has studio interiors on select ships and frequently runs waived- or reduced-supplement sales, especially in the Mediterranean.
Lines without dedicated solo cabins
